At just over 10 years old and with nearly 100 employees our client is a successful legal practice that continues to grow and go places and that continues into 2020.

In 2019 they set up their brand-new Conveyancing Department – this has rapidly gone from strength to strength and already has 14 staff.  They need a Head of Department to lead them and ensure the success of this department continues.

This is a very special opportunity to take something that is still very new and truly make it your own.

You will be given the autonomy and support to generate new business and develop the caseload as you see fit.  Then you will be supported in increasing the team to meet the level of business you develop. 

So you are not just running the Conveyancing Department – you really are developing it too.

You will encourage, mentor and develop the team – that is: solicitors, fee earners, paralegals and admin assistants.  You will ensure the team meets their objectives and targets ensuring that there is a continuous improvement culture.  You will oversee all stages of the conveyancing process from instruction to completion. You will set the team their objectives and track performance daily -ensuring fees can be maximized.

Main responsibilities:

Implementing the firm’s plan for the Conveyancing Department

Maintain CQS accreditation – adhering to guidelines and best practices

Manage a growing caseload of mixed conveyancing matters – residential and commercial covering a broad mix of sales, purchases, freehold and leasehold.

Conduct regular reviews of Fee Earner caseloads

Design efficient internal processes within Proclaim

Provide technical guidance to your team

Work with the Legal Directors to assess trends with the work quality

Managing your team by:

Creating a motivated working environment

                Promoting Team Working

                Team and Department Meetings

Maximising the potential of your team – working with HR to identify training and development needs

Conducting appraisals

Monitoring weekly and monthly financial management information – in particular KPIs

Building a caseload of high-quality residential sales –

Building client relationships

Ensuring compliance with SRA Code of Conduct

It will take experience and talent to do this role. This is who we are looking for – is it you?

Great experience with residential and commercial conveyancing processes and procedures

Extensive knowledge of sales and purchase of leasehold and freehold, re-mortgages and schemes such as Help to Buy and equity sharing arrangements

Able to show that you can lead and develop a team

Have a legal degree or be licensed with Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC)

Used to working with Proclaim

Able to handle deadlines with ease

Able to identify opportunities for change and improvement
